Summative Assessment
Politics is a livings science, constantly changing and moving with the rise and fall of people's ideals and needs. As this Digital Unit Plan is focused on demonstrating how political parties were formed and work within American politics, it would best serve the class to have a simulated election in class at the end of the Unit. Such an activity was used when I was in Civics class, and it is a great way for students to gain a direct, hands-on experience with American politics.
A preliminary outline of this election would go as follows:
A preliminary outline of this election would go as follows:
- Eight students are selected and/or volunteer to head a party of their own creation.
- Each nominee will give a three to five minute presentation on what issues, ideals, and projects their party stands promotes.
- The whole class disperses to the parties and join the nominee with which they most agree.
- Each party must now communicate, deal, and merge with the others in order to gain a majority in the class. Each party must merge with another at least once.
- The campaigns will take place in two stages, a census and an election. The census will take place after students have joined the parties, while they are dealing with other parties. The election will happen after the parties have made their mergers and they feel they hold a majority in the class.
